In San Diego...

We took a trip to San Diego for a 4 day weekend, partly to attend a family reunion (that will be another post)… while there we took advantage of some sights I'd never visited when I lived there, here's some of what we were up to:

What are these?  These are Marta's feet in her (very awesome) toed-running shoes… Marta is my daughter-in-law & she's training for a marathon - you go girl!!

This day she decided to wear her running shoes for our trekking-about…

First we went to the San Diego Maritime Museum...

That's Jeff (hubby) & Tim (son - Marta's husband).

Marta also likes to take pictures, she takes less but they're much better quality than mine… mine are just snapshots with my little digital buddy :)

That's Mom, we convinced her to come with us...

We toured this ship… more on her later...

This is the first ship we toured, the Star Of India… many moons ago my Dad (now deceased) helped to refurbish her… so there were some sweet memories of Dad as we went through her.  This was a real clipper ship & the only one still in working order...

Marta & Tim...

Jeff striking a pose… he's such a Ham!!

Mom decided to Ham it up too!

Cruise ship docked nearby...

Proof I toured the Star Of India...

Jeff tried to tell us this was the current Ladies Room… um, yeah, sure honey...

Jeff spotted this car in the parking lot & thought it was "all pimped out"...

Next we toured the HMS Surprise - its the "Movie Star" of the museum as it was in both Master & Commander and Pirates Of The Caribbean 4.  I believe this is a replica of an ancient ship...

A Russian sub, we toured her later...

The Privy on this ship… off the Bow...

In order to tour the Russian Sub we had to make sure we could fit through the openings…  The sub in question was first launched in 1972.

Bert thinks this sub is his home...

Proof I was there...

I have no idea what this says...

Side shot of the Star Of India...

On to the next sub… this is a United States sub, first launched in 1968 (older than Russian sub).

Mom taking a seat on a pretty bench inside a Steam Ferry that acted as both a ship to tour as well as a small museum of sorts...

While on board Jeff recognized the building across the street… his only San Diego visit before we were dating was to the basement of this building to work - never got to sight-see...

Some smaller ships that are part of the museum...

Stack of the Steam Ferry...

A Naval vessel docked at Coronado Island (across the harbor)...

Done with the Maritime Museum and time for lunch!!  Jeff had been drooling over a place he'd seen on a Food Network show: Slater's 50/50 - they make burgers that are 50% ground beef & 50% bacon… Sigh… my arteries clog up just thinking about it… good thing for me they also made Portobello "burgers" (all was quite yummy)….

Tim's 50/50 burger with extra Bacon & a Bacon-laced Pretzel bun… oh my!!  The Ketchup also had bits of Bacon…

Mom had a Bratwurst burger… she could only eat half…  Sweet Potato fries had a Pumpkin Spice dipping sauce… yum!

To work off our lunch we toured the USS Midway aircraft carrier...

Coronado Bridge in the distance...

This was a restaurant my Mom & Dad used to go to on Special Occasions...

In the bridge...

That's my hubby… hamming it up once again!!

Phew!!  That's a lot of photos!!
